As we wind down 2016, we thought we’d take a look back at some of our most popular videos from the year. To start off, always a favorite and one that is currently making the rounds in the news: “Casper” the ghostlike octopus.

Seen in the Hawaiian Archipelago during the first operational dive of Okeanos Explorer’s 2016 season at a depth of nearly 4,300 meters (2.67 miles), this octopus is almost certainly an undescribed species and may not belong to any described genus.
